Vernon Dursley's Strange Day

The film begins with Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid leaving baby Harry Potter on the doorstep of his aunt and uncle's house.

The book, however, dedicates considerably more time to explaining what happens in the preceding hours.

Before Harry arrives at Privet Drive, Vernon Dursley has a particularly strange day. While on his way to work, he encounters several people dressed in cloaks, notices numerous owls flying in broad daylight, and overhears strangers mentioning a family named Potter.

The wizards are celebrating the disappearance of Lord Voldemort and the survival of little Harry, although Vernon still doesn't understand what is happening.

This part of the book allows us to discover the magical world from the point of view of a person trying to ignore anything that seems different or inexplicable.

Harry meets Draco Malfoy before arriving at Hogwarts

In the film, Harry meets Draco Malfoy at Hogwarts, shortly before the students are sorted into their respective houses.

In the book, their first encounter happens much earlier.

While Harry is buying his robes at Madam Malkin's, he gets into a conversation with a blond boy who is also preparing to start his first year. That boy is Draco, although neither introduces themselves immediately.

During the conversation, Draco shows some of his ideas about wizarding families, Muggle-borns, and the Hogwarts houses. He also speaks about Hagrid in a derogatory manner.

One of the most well-known omissions from the films is Peeves the poltergeist of Hogwarts.

Peeves isn't exactly a ghost. He's a chaotic creature that haunts the castle, playing pranks, throwing objects, singing offensive songs, and causing trouble for teachers and students alike.

It appears in the book on numerous occasions and becomes one of the main enemies of Argus Filch, the school caretaker.
